Celebrating Women...for the Real World
Sunday, December 31, 2006 Happpy New Year!

Sheri here. I've been a bit remiss in posting as I've had a zoo at my house and apparently I'm the zoo keeper.

I hope all of you enjoyed Christmas. I have. It's been exhausting, but enjoyable. Some of our guests left yesterday, so my sister treated me to a massage. Oh My Bob!!!!! I think I must make this a regular habit! I actually came home and took a two hour nap! That is unheard of in Motherland! Then I fell asleep early and had probably the best night's sleep I've had in a long time! Great! You must do this.

I'm sure that many of you are making your resolutions and plans for next year. I know I am. Of course I make the typical lose weight, be a better wife, mother, employee resolution. As I'm thinking through all the "I'm going to's", I picked up the January 07 issue of Good Housekeeping. Dr. Phil wrote an article "Dr. Phil's plan to help you change for good". Now, I'm not usually a Dr. Phil fan. Can't tell you why, I'm just not. I must have been very bored because I started reading his article and actually plan to use some of what I read. I will bullet the important points.

That's the whole point in his article. Say you've decided to exercise and eat better. Your habit of sitting on the couch with a cookie in one hand and a cold beer in the other must be replaced with a new habit. Instead of saying I won't eat fast food, make a plan to eat more healthy foods.

OK, enough of this feel good shit. I am going to try to incorporate some of these good habits into my life and try to replace some of the bad ones. Below are some pictures that I promised before Christmas. Yes, I am a slacker. What can I say! Enjoy!

Cookies - Can't have a Christmas without cookies!

Daughter and son #2 not being to successful with the tree. Yes, he ended up on the floor with the tree on top of him. I was laughing to hard to take pictures.

Success!

All done and decorated. Looks like Santa was here!

Hubs enjoying his Christmas breakfast! Yeah, don't get excited. I put bagels by the toaster and set out cream cheese.

Even muff puff got a gift from Santa!

Again, SuZan and I want to wish you all our blogging buddies a safe and happy New Year! Each of you have touched our lives in some way! It wouldn't be the same without you!

Remember-go to the side bar and vote for your favorite blog!

Saturday, December 23, 2006 A Little Holiday Cheer!

Sheri sent me this email yesterday and I just had to share it with you (I told her I was going to post it)

Enjoy......

Twas the Friday before Christmas and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even…….. SHER!

The sun shone through the open curtains, and we all were weary;
James reached over to see what was the matter,
As his wife was still sleeping and not making a clatter!!!!

She must have hit “snooze” to many times,
And truly is finding it hard to make this thing rhyme!

Awaken now she heads to the shower and gets dressed;
With only ½ a cup of coffee, she should be depressed (hey, it rhymes)!

Out the door she goes with visions of Kolaches and Starbucks in her head;
She’s truly thinking “this would have been a good day to stay in bed.”

She goes down the street and what does appear?
Flashing red and white lights in her review mirror!

A warning was received after a few tears were shed,
She made it to work with the vision of Starbucks…….. long gone~ (you thought I was going to say head, didn’t you?)

OK, so the poem sucks, but it sums up my morning quite nicely!

Ugh, back to work. I work for Scrooge I tell ya!

Regards,

Sheri

Friday, December 22, 2006 Stuff Portrait Friday!

This week Kristine is still in the closet so Shaun is taking over.

You need an assignment, without one you’re bumming.
Your hostess is curled in the closet, near dead
While visions of laptops dance in her head (fucking H.P).
When all of a sudden, on Random and Odd,
A substitute teacher, an obvious fraud (or hero who saves old asian ladies, whichever you choose to call me).
I’ll be nice for Kristine, and all of you whiners
Who aren’t professional photographers or graphic designers.
OK, this poem sucks. It ends here.
Your assignment, should you choose to accept:

1. One decoration.
2. One gift.
3. Something stuffed in a stocking.
.
ONE DECORATION

This is the new one for this year. G2's last Christmas as a child and a Senior in High School. It is hard to believe for me that next month he becomes an adult (damn I feel old)!

ONE GIFT

I picked this present because I wanted to show you the ribbon (DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME). I saw this feather ribbon in the store so I thought it would look cool. After making the bow I have about decided that it looks like something that Mercedes has regurgitated.

Don't get this...it sucks!

SOMETHING STUFFED IN A STOCKING

This one is for you Shaun! Since we have a stocking that says "Stuff it, Stuff it" I just couldn't resist. G2 is my partner in crime...hehehe.

Did you play?

Thursday, December 21, 2006 A Martha Moment

Finally school is out; I got to sleep with no alarm. The agenda for today is to finish Christmas shopping and start baking. Got all the Christmas stuff up so now I can enjoy it.

I love how the tree turned out. I keep adding to it every year even though I keep thinking that I can't possibly get one more thing on it.

This was my Martha moment. I had this football nutcracker so I sanded it and turned it into a Bobcat. I thought G2 was going to think it was stupid, but he didn't and was telling me that I needed to put a stripe here, add his number there, etc.

He even wanted the 'paws' on the back of the helmet. I had to use a pencil eracer and carve out a paw and then stamp them on. Yes...a Martha moment for sure.

This was my first attempt at floral arranging. I think I surprised Big G, I know I surprised myself.

Last night we had an ornament exchange party over at Nichole's house. It is always great seeing some of the Houston blogger bitches

Wednesday, December 20, 2006 So Much To Do; So Little Time

Anyone else feeling the holiday crunch? Anyone? Anyone?

I noticed that bulleted posts really helps one empty one's mind of thoughts that could cause one to have an anxiety attack. Sit back, get a cup of coffee, and read. Words of sympathy will be excepted.

  • Why or why is my boss such a Scrooge? No, really. We tripled our billing. He hired another secretary to keep up with his work. Did anyone hire another person to help me? See, I do the accounting/IT/office management type stuff. I am affected not by one attorney, but all three. All three triple their billing and what do you think happens to my workload?????? Did I get a bonus? No. Did anyone? Yes! The two partners. Quite significant if I may add. Bitter? You bet! Especially since I cut the damn checks!
  • My visitors start arriving tonight. Is the house ready? No. There are clean towels however. That should count for something.
  • Why oh why does my daughter's car breakdown each and ever time my hubs and I are on the way out to celebrate our anniversary? Sunday night I was literally shutting the car door when she called. Hubs bought two tickets to Trans Siberian Orchestra. She was at Walmart and the car wouldn't start! Shit! Luckily someone gave her a jump and she made it home. Hubs changed battery, in the rain on Monday. Yesterday, was our anniversary and we had reservations at a fancy restaurant. We were on the way when I get a call. "Mom, my car stalled just as I was pulling into the parking lot at work." Again, got a jump after work and made it home. I don't use this word much but....fuck!
  • Why or why did I choose accounting as a career? I mean really. Can I take time off over the holidays? No. I have to get ready for month end billing; payroll; year end reports; tax filings; etc., etc. I can't like it!
  • I'm not done shopping yet! What's that? I'm running out of time? Yup! More stress!
  • Why does my sister come to visit each and every Christmas and have some huge drama going on. Can't write about it yet. I will.

OK, I must stop now. Really, sympathy will be appreciated. Or wine.....wine for my whine! I just made myself laugh.

Tuesday, December 19, 2006 Tickle Tuesday....and other stuff!

Las Vegas Churches

THIS MAY COME AS A SURPRISE TO THOSE OF YOU NOT LIVING IN LAS VEGAS, BUT THERE ARE MORE CATHOLIC CHURCHES THAN CASINOS.

NOT SURPRISINGLY, SOME WORSHIPPERS AT SUNDAY SERVICES WILL GIVE CASINO CHIPS RA THER THAN CASH WHEN THE BASKET IS PASSED.

SINCE THEY GET CHIPS FROM MANY DIFFERENT CASINOS, THE CHURCHES HAVE DEVISED A METHOD TO COLLECT THE OFFERINGS.

THE CHURCHES SEND ALL THEIR COLLECTED CHIPS TO A NEARBY FRANCISCAN MONASTERY FOR SORTING AND THEN THE CHIPS ARE TAKEN TO THE CASINOS OF ORIGIN AND CASHED IN.

THIS IS DONE BY THE CHIP MONKS...!.:)

YOU DIDN'T EVEN SEE IT COMING DID YOU ..?

GOTCHA !!

~~~~~~~~~~
.
The Random Stuff!
Not much as far as the other stuff. All of us are coming down off of football and trying to get ready for Christmas. The house is finally done except for the guest bedroom and our bedroom look like Christmas still threw up all over them. I don't know if I will be able to get any baking done because we just don't have the time off from school like in the past (we get out after Wednesday).
.
Sheri and I did have the most awsome shopping experience last weekend. Because we both were cringing at the thought of going to a mall; we went to Town & Country Village and it was great. No teenagers all over the place, the weather was fantastic (around 75 and sunny); one store even carried our packages out to the car; we ate lunch outside...life was good!
Friday, December 15, 2006 Stuff Portrait Friday!
It is Friday so you know that it is time for SPF! Kristine is having computer problems so Shaun is hosting this week. This week, take pictures of:
1. Your Roof
2. Your ‘hood (you can do sweatshirt, your neighborhood, your car…)
3. Something you would not want to run into that is in your house.
This should be interesting; I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with.
YOUR ROOF
Well I got to this one way too late and it was dark outside and I couldn't take a picture of my roof so, I’ll give you Zeus’ roof. He lives here so it would count. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
YOUR HOOD
I did remember this part of our assignment. While I was on my way to work I called Big G to run out in the yard and take pictures of our street. We had a lot of fog and I thought it would be a cool picture. So I present you...my hood!
....word
SOMETHING YOU WOULD NOT WANT TO RUN INTO
This is a small game table next to the back door. I can’t tell you how many times my knee has come in contact with it while going to the back yard. You would think that I would just move the darn thing.
So tell us…did you play?
Thursday, December 14, 2006 I Know, I Suck!
I had EVERY intention of posting the pictures of the whole tree thing. Really, I did. My house is like a zoo in the evenings. I really don't know where the time goes. I was talking to SuZan at 9:30. Turned on my computer to start the whole download/upload process. I got busy doing something else...well, about 20 something elses (I think I have ADD), the next thing I knew, it was midnight. Seeing as how the alarm goes off at 4:30 a.m.; I figured I should probably hit the sheets. Do you feel sorry for me yet? No? Crap. Then I'll give you cookies. Cookies and coffee.
I'm reading the book "Skipping Christmas" by John Grisham. I read it every year. Someone got it for me one year as a "Coffee Table Book". Every year I read it and think I really would like to take a cruise for Christmas! My husband likes the idea. But he said I'd still probably break my back decorating, buying presents and stressing over all the things one stresses about during the holiday along with stressing about everything one stresses about before going on a vacation. Unfortunately, he's correct. That's exactly what I'd do.
I really will try to get those pictures up tonight. Really. I know, you've heard that before!
Wednesday, December 13, 2006 Jingle Bells, Batman Smells........
Can you believe it? My tree is almost up! I'm almost done putting up the decorations! Every year, every gosh darn year I start the season with good intentions. I really thought I was going to do it this year. My goal is to have the lights up outside, the inside decorated and my shopping done & wrapped by the 10th of December. Hello.....it's the 13th and am I done? Nooooooo. I do have some cute pics of my daughter and youngest son trying to put up the 8 foot tree! I will post these later so please check back. My daughter is only 5' tall. Use your imagination then check back for the pics. What you've imagined most likely is what happened!
On another note, I have a small dilemma. My step-daughter comes in on 12/20. I haven't seen her for 2 years. I love her to pieces. When I say step-daughter (I will refer to her as SD) people think of a small child or teenager. No, she's 24. Basically, it's like having a friend come to visit. I look forward to her visit. The dilemma-one of the Houston bitches is having a "Girl's Night" the night she comes in. I really want to go see my bitches. SD's plane arrives at 6:00 so they should be getting to the house about 7:00. The party is 7:00-9:00. What I'd like to do is go to the party til like 8:00 or 8:30 then come home and visit with SD. I don't think hubs will go for that. I was thinking about waiting til SD arrives, give her a hug and kiss then arrive at the party fashionably late. Don't think hubs will go for that either. Plus, to me that seems a little rude. It would be like "Hey, how ya doin. Hugs and kisses. Later." I would take SD with, but I KNOW hubs won't go for that. Long story, but mostly, he really is looking forward to visiting with her. So I ask my Internet bitches...what's a bitch to do?
Monday, December 11, 2006 Monday, Monday
Wow, I had this post all planned with pictures and everything, but blogger was being a bitch. Well, not just blogger, but the Internet in general.
To bring you all up to date, our Bobcats lost their playoff game in the last 20 seconds by 1 point. I could give you all the gory details, but to save time, I'll tell you this-our boys played with their hearts; every single boy gave 100%; the other team did as well and, all though it's hard to say the words, they earned their win and I hope they continue to do well.
In other news, my hubs will be on one of the local news stations this morning. He has a technical blog and they interviewed him about the upcoming fad "unboxing videos". Basically, people are video taping the unboxing of their stuff-gadgets, games, whatever. They publish it usually on U-Tube. It's a big thing. He's done a couple unboxing videos and they interviewed him-go figure! Autographs will be available upon request!
What are we going to fill our time with now that football is over you ask? Christmas! In fact, it looks like Christmas threw up all over my house! See, I got the outside done pretty much over the Thanksgiving weekend. People see the outside, not too many see the inside. With football, it's hard to fit everything in. Yesterday, after 3 trips to the storage unit, I finally started putting up Christmas inside! No, tree isn't up yet, but we're getting closer! I figure I have 9 days until my company starts arriving. I stand a good chance of getting it all done by then. We did make some cookies yesterday. I have pictures, but again-blogger the bitch! Nuff said!
One more football thought-I think what I'll miss more than anything is knowing that my hubs and I would be getting together with my aunt and G1 and SuZan. We had a blast! My one goal is to make sure that we don't let life get in the way and get together as often as possible----even though there's no more football, I'm sure there's a Margarita somewhere with our name on it!
Oh my, I was ever so excited but nervous to have a victim, er, candidate. We saw this at lunch before the big game on Saturday. SuZan knew what I was going to do, my aunt on the other hand, well, I think she really thought I was taking a picture of her and SuZan. Here it is!
Um, where to start? Let's see, could we start with the hair? Yes, the hair. And the dress. It was 32 flucking degrees outside people! She had no coat. The opened toed shoes.....I can't go on.......
Let us know if you played!
Random Stuff
Not much is going on with us; as a matter of fact we were just saying how boring everything is right now. Our lives are totally consumed with football with our boys in the playoffs. So we cannot make any planned activities which this time of the year is pretty hard.
So our blogroll has been neglected but we are really not anti-social. I would hope our lives are not this one dimensional (ha...but I guess right now we are). You know your a football mom when you receive invitations to holiday events and you have to say..."Let me get back with you next week because if the boys win then we will be at a football game".
I will leave you with a wonderful holiday recipe to add to your festivities. Sheri and I haven't decided who is going to try this first.
Tequila Christmas Cake
1 cup water
1 tsp. baking soda
1 cup sugar1 tsp. salt
1 cup of brown sugar
Lemon juice
4 large eggs
Nuts
1 bottle tequila
2 cups dried fruit
Sample the tequila to check quality. (I already sampled it.....several times to check the quality). Take a large bowl, check the tequila again.
To be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink. Repeat. Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar. Beat again. At this point its best to make sure the tequila is still OK. Try another cup...just in case.
Turn off the mixerer thingy. Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit. Pick the frigging fruit up off the floor. Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers just pry it loose with adrewscriver.
Sample the tequila to check for tonsisticity. Next, sift two cups of salt. Or something. Check the tequila. Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find.
Greash the oven. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don't forget to beat off the turner. Finally, throw the bowl through the window. Finish the tequila and wipe counter with the cat.
CHERRY MISTMAS!
Monday, December 04, 2006 Tickle Tuesday
It's not Monday, and it's not Hump Day; so it must be "Tickle Tuesday". Tickle Tuesday is our attempt to lighten your load and make your week just a little brighter. Enjoy!
BLONDE SEX
A blond was driving down the street, in a panic because she had an important meeting and couldn't find a parking space.
Looking up toward heaven, she said,
"Oh Lord, please take pity on me. If you find me a parking space, I will go to church every Sunday for the rest of my life, and give up sex and tequila."
Miraculously, an empty spot appeared.
She looked up again and said,
"Never mind, found one."
Have a great week!
I thought that this was going to be a tough game but as you can see it was all Bobcats! We won and are moving onto the Regional Finals. We will be playing Pearland at Rice Stadium next Saturday.
Friday, December 01, 2006 Stuff Portrait Friday!
This SPF brought to you by the lovely Kristine; is going to be very interesting to see everyone’s perception. So for this week, our assignment is to take a picture of:
1. Something that makes you go “hmmmm.”
2. Something Sweet
3. Something Retro.
THINGS THAT MAKE YOU GO HMMMMMM!
Hmmmmmmmmmmm look at that! There’s this cat in our house that thinks she is Godzilla whenever I set up my Christmas village. You see…she is trying out her butt to see if it still fits on the bar (she has put on 2 pounds since her surgery). Oh and that is Big-G; being the studly manly man by helping me out by in the kitchen.
SOMETHING SWEET
Anything chocolate is a Good Thing.
SOMETHING RETRO
Now this one is hard in this house, but I did finally come up with something…our toothpick holder and that skillet belonged to Big-G's grandmother so that would be retro too…..taaa daaaaa.
So tell us…did you play?
